Continuing Struggle in Syria

Downtown Rally Supports Continuing Struggle in Syria

Eleven thousand people have been killed by Syrian government forces during demonstrations that began there in March, according to Syrian human rights organizations, and the country's leader, Bashar al-Assad, continues his brutal attacks on his own people.

In a show of solidarity with those who courageously continue the struggle for freedom in Syria, as well as in Libya, Bahrain, Yemen, and Palestine, human rights activists in Dallas will gather for a rally at Ferris Plaza, Houston & Young Sts., in downtown Dallas, Saturday, May 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

As violent clashes between Syrian forces and protesters continue, more countries are responding to the pressure from their citizens to isolate and strengthen sanctions against the tyrannical regime. "It is time to stop supporting dictators of the Middle East and side with the people there who are crying out for freedom, democracy, human rights and dignity," said Hadi Jawad, of the Dallas Peace Center's Middle East Peace Committee.

The rally was organized by the Coalition for Free Syria, www.CoalitionForFreeSyria.org.
