Freedom Flotilla II US Boat to Gaza

Dallas Peace Center co-Sponsors the Dallas Solidarity Action: Freedom Flotilla II US Boat to Gaza

Supporters of the Freedom Flotilla II and The Dallas Peace Center will participate in a rally today in front of Dealey Plaza at 5:00 p.m. The purpose of these peaceful actions are to bring awareness about the ongoing humanitarian crisis taking place in Gaza and share with people of conscience what we as U.S. taxpayers can do to help.

Under the 2007 blockade imposed by Israel the living conditions in Gaza have severely deteriorated.

Today the people of Palestine live in one of the most impoverished states without their basic needs for food and water, medical services, education being met.

  • 81% of families in Gaza live beneath the poverty line of $2.70 per day
  • According to the UN, 70% of people in Gaza are dependent on food aid
  • Unemployment rate is over 45%, one of the highest in the world
  • Out of 1.4 million people in Gaza 60% of these are children

The Holy Land has been the stage for one of the world's longest-running conflicts, for over 60 years.  Since 1948 both Israel and Palestine have struggled for acknowledgment of right to meaningful existence, prosperity, justice, security and peace.

Today's efforts are in solidarity with the actions of  the Freedom Flotilla II which includes boats from many countries, including the U.S., who are attempting to break Israel's blockade of Gaza.
