"Five Years Too Long" Peace Rally -- Dallas

Mar 19 2008 - 4:00pm
Mar 19 2008 - 6:00pm

Iraq lies in ruins and casualties of war continue to mount. More than a million Iraqis are dead and U.S deaths are approaching 4,000. 4 million Iraqis have been rendered homeless or have left the country for safety in neighboring countries like Jordan and Syria. The cost of the war to U.S taxpayers may surpass $3 trillion according to Nobel laureate economist James Stiglitz.

Just a few months ago it was widely believed that the Iraq war would be the central issue in the 2008 election. It is shocking how swiftly the defining issue of our times has been set aside by our leaders in Washington and an obsequious media. The 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, March 19, presents an opportunity to put the Iraq war back on the table for discussion and debate.

Speakers include Tunde Obazee, Rev. Charles Stovall, Veterans for Peace National Rep. Doug Zachary and a local Iraq Veteran Against the War. Nathan Berg and the Halliburtons, along with Drums NOT Guns, will provide music. John Fullinwider’s high school students will perform a “Top 100 Bush Lies” skit.

Sponsored by the Dallas Peace Center’s “End the Occupation of Iraq” Committee and Code Pink-Dallas.
